Emergency Eye Care
Life doesn’t always go according to plan. Urgent eyecare is all about getting you the fast, expert treatment you need when something goes wrong with your eyes.
Whether it’s an injury, infection, or any sudden vision issue, our team is here to help you get back on track.
What is emergency eyecare?
Urgent eyecare is available for conditions and injuries that require immediate attention to prevent further damage and preserve your vision. Some of these include:
- Chemical burns – accidents happen, so if something like cleaning products or other chemicals get into your eyes, it’s important to act fast to rinse them and get professional help
- Foreign body extraction – if something is stuck in your eye – whether it’s dust, metal or anything else that shouldn’t be there – we can help remove it safely and swiftly
- Sudden vision loss – if you are experiencing blurry vision, black spots or sudden changes in how you see, don’t wait – get checked out immediately
- Welding flashes – if you’ve been exposed to bright welding light without protective eyewear, you may experience “flash burn” to your eyes, which is uncomfortable but treatable if caught early.
When to seek emergency eyecare
Emergencies come in all shapes and sizes and so, you might be wondering, “How do I know when it’s time to call for urgent help and seek medical attention?”
Here are some red flags:
- Foreign objects in your eye, visible or not, that won’t come out easily
- Eye injuries from accidents, sports, or exposure to chemicals
- Sudden changes in vision, like blurred or double vision in one or both eyes
- Eye infections that worsen or don’t improve quickly
- Cuts or scratches on your eyelid or eyeball
- A blow to the face, eye area, or head
- Intense eye pain that just won’t quit
- Red eyes, especially if you’re a contact lens wearer
- Flashes of light or floaters suddenly appearing in your vision
- Persistent, pounding headaches
- A dark shadow or curtain blocking part of your vision.
What to do in an emergency
If you experience an eye emergency, it’s important to stay calm, take immediate action and avoid rubbing your eye, as this can cause further damage.
For foreign objects or chemical exposure, flush your eye with lukewarm water and seek medical attention if needed. In cases of cuts, scratches, or blunt trauma, apply a cool compress and contact a professional immediately to ensure proper care.
